People are always telling me I have a nice smile. I do try to smile often, because smiling is a great way to boost my mood as well as those around me. However, smiling does come with its baggage. Literally.

I’m now in my 40s but have had wrinkles around my eyes since my teenage years. I’ve had dark circles around my eyes since childhood. Thanks, genetics. Those dark circles are starting to turn into dark bags around my eyes. I’m in no way vain, but since I’ve been using more natural cosmetics and home remedies, I thought maybe I would try to make a healthy eye cream. And it’s working!

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil has been talked about for good health a lot, and there’s a good reason for it. It’s just an amazing little miracle cure. If you search “benefits of coconut oil” you will come up with more than one million pages! Let’s just go over some benefits of coconut oil for our eyes.

As our body ages, our skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity and that tight teenage firmness. As that happens, wrinkles and bags start to develop. Coconut oil contains antioxidants and has antibacterial and antifungal properties which can help heal your skin, increase elasticity, lighten dark circles and brown spots, and provide your delicate eyes with a healthy and natural moisturizer. I told you coconut oil is amazing.

Organic Eucalyptus Oil helps reduce the puffiness around eyes and helps naturally eliminate dark circles.

Organic Lavender Oil acts as a diuretic, helping to drain extra fluid and puffiness around the eye.

Organic Rosemary Oil is another anti-inflammatory oil which reduces under-eye swelling and acts as a diuretic, reducing fluid build-up.

After some research, I decided to try the below natural DIY dark circle and bag remover. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose besides dark circles and bags, so why not?

Ingredients
2 Tbsp. Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
2 Drops Organic Eucalyptus Oil
2 Drops Organic Lavender Oil
2 Drops Organic Rosemary Oil

Directions
Place the coconut oil into a glass mixing bowl and add the essential oil drops. Stir well.
Place your homemade eye cream mixture in an amber or cobalt glass jar with a lid.
Done! Easy-peasy.

Using an amber or cobalt bottle helps ensure the essential oils are properly stored. Light, heat, moisture and oxygen all affect the oils properties and expiration date, so by properly storing your natural eye cream, you will be able to maintain potency.

How to Apply Your Natural Anti-Wrinkle Cream
Place a small amount of your natural eye cream on your pinky finger and gently dab under each eye and around where you have your crow’s feet. The cream will naturally absorb into your skin.
Apply daily, up to three times a day.
Be careful not to get the coconut oil into your eyes.

Before the natural eye cream.

I had a photo taken before I tried my homemade natural eye cream then one at one week, two weeks and finally, three weeks. I have to admit, my natural eye cream remedy seems to be a success! The wrinkles around my eyes are starting to disappear. The puffiness under my eyes is also starting to tighten up. And finally, my dark circles around my eyes are also getting lighter. These results are pretty impressive, considering the ingredients are natural, and this natural eye cream is so inexpensive.

My plan is to continue with my natural eye care regimen, and maybe my dark circles will actually go away. I’m unsure how often I will need to apply to maintain, but I intend to keep applying this natural eye cream three times a day when I can.

Now, before you go running to your local health store, there are some cautions. I’m not an essential oil specialist, just a girl trying to do some research and find a healthy solution for my everyday living. Essential oils are very strong out of the bottle as they are not diluted. Using undiluted essential oils can be risky and even burn your skin, so please make sure you use a carrier, in this case, coconut oil. Always do a patch test on your arm first. Because this natural remedy is for your eyes, be extra careful not to get any of the ingredients inside your eye, and I do not recommend using on your eyelid or above because you don’t want the oil migrating to the inside of your eye. If you ever do get it into your eye, flush immediately with a carrier oil or milk and contact a doctor. Do not use essential oils on children without speaking to your healthcare provider, especially eucalyptus, as it is toxic to children. If you have any disease, such as liver disease, kidney disease, seizures, asthma, or low blood pressure, you should not use eucalyptus without first talking to your doctor.

If you are looking for natural ways to reduce wrinkles, dark circles and bags under your eyes, I encourage you to try my natural DIY eye cream above. If either you or your doctor does not feel comfortable with the use of organic essential oils, try organic virgin coconut oil only! I bet you will see pretty impressive results, too.

  1. It looks like I have some shopping to do, this will be a fun project to try. In knowing how you research things and how you care about the safety of products, I’ll feel confident in giving it a try. No chemicals is a yes in my book. Thank you for sharing..you rock!

  2. Oooh, I’m a huge coconut fan!! If I’m all out of makeup remover, I use it to clean my face! You can even successfully remove water-resistant make-up!! Your eyes look amazing!! Nice job!!

  3. I have not tried this myself, but a younger friend (in her 30s) was using coconut oil in lieu of moisturizer and make up remover too! I should check in with her and see if she’s still doing that.

    1. Thanks, Susan. I’d love to hear how it’s working for her. I’m on my 4th week now. 🙂

    1. Very true! I think my biggest “Uhm, I’m getting old” is that people always thought I was younger than I was, by a lot. But, that’s not happening now!

  4. I am absolutely going to try this. I have bags and dark circles under my eyes ALL the time – a combination of not sleeping enough and getting older. Coconut oil seems to have so many purposes. I will let you know how it works.

    1. Thanks. Be careful then with any oils. I might suggest just the coconut oil. 🙂

    1. Sure thing. If you try, please feel free to come back here for an update. 🙂

  5. Thanks for sharing. I’m going to try this on my neck as well. That is one area that so many women forget to moisturize and it often times shows your age.
