Dexter The Dog was a happy camper today. When it comes to testing and reviewing holistic and natural pet products, Dexter would like to skip the natural dog grooming reviews and head straight to the all-natural dog treats! Today was his day.

When Icelandic+™ asked me to review their all-natural fish dog treats, I first had to be sure it was a product that met my personal criteria for my pets. With all of the products I use or feed my furry kids, the very first thing I do is read the entire ingredient label. It’s always important to me to know exactly what’s inside a pet product, not just what’s on the front of the fancy packaging, but everything.

Icelandic+ Capelin Ingredients: Icelandic Capelin Whole Fish

Yes, that’s it. Just whole Capelin fish from the pure waters of Iceland. Icelandic+ dog treats and chews are manufactured within FDA, USDA, EU, and MAST standards and regulations, to ensure the freshness, purity, and integrity. I happily agreed to review Icelandic+ Capelin Whole Fish.

When our bag of Capelin treats arrived, I actually did not have time to test them right away, so I placed them in my closet. Dexter, on the other hand, was more than eager to get to work. For three days, he kept going to my closet door and sitting there, looking at me. When I opened the door to get my clothes for the day, he would dart inside, looking up at the bag of Icelandic Fish Dog Treats in anticipation.

Pure. Natural. Unspoiled.

Finally, it was time to try Icelandic+ all natural dog treats. These whole fish dog treats are pretty impressive in size, ranging from about five to six inches long. My first thought was how Dexter would handle the size. Would he chew the fish or try to swallow it whole? To ensure safety and to see how Dexter consumed the treat, I held the end as I gave it to him to chew.

Dexter’s eyes bugged out with delight as he carefully chewed the Capelin fish. I was happy with the way Dexter chewed, so provided him with a second fish treat to eat on his own. Once again, he chewed it up bit by bit.

Chew. Chew. Chew.

If you have a small dog or a gobbler, I would recommend this process to ensure chewing safety. If it’s a concern, you can easily break the natural fish up into three or four bite-sized pieces.

Since Dexter was so impressed with the Capelin fish, I decided Nutter The Cat and Delilah would also enjoy this healthy fish cat treats. First up was Nutter. I watched as Nutter sniffed the treat and quickly started to lick the fish. Within seconds, he was chomping on the fish and taking off bits to eat. I allowed him to eat half of the fish, then I went to Delilah.

Unlike Nutter, Delilah is a bit shy, so she wondered why I was there watching her. But the fresh aroma of the natural fish took over and she, too, started to lick the fish. Unlike Nutter, she quickly swallowed her part whole, and before I could even get up, she puked it back up. This shows me again how important it is to supervise pets who are eating new things to ensure they manage a product as expected. I will reintroduce the treat to both cats, but in bite-sized portions.

  1. I had to babysit my friends dogs and I gave the the same kind of treat and they were just obsessed with these! Their favorites!

  2. Ok, this looks good enough for me to eat!! Haha. Dexter seems to enjoy it! I’ve just been to Iceland and their fish snacks for humans is amazing!

  3. Dexter is so adorable! I don’t have a dog but I definitely believe that natural ingredients are important to their health! Thanks for sharing.

  5. That is the CUTESt dog ever! Seriously!!! I am all about natural ingredients for my family so dogs would be no different!

  6. Interesting! This is the first time I heard about these dog treats. I will give it a shot. My dog does not like those other treats that I get for him but maybe an all natural whole fish dog treat would be something he’ll learn to love.

  7. It is a nice treat for dogs. I would love to share this to my family so our dog can try this.

  8. Dexter’s one very lucky dog! I do believe as well that natural ingredients are key to a healthy diet, both for people and pets. I see so many people feeding their dog only store bought food!!

  9. Hmm, it’s such an odd thing to think about giving your dog fish to eat. Cats I could see, but in my head it is strange for a dog. I’ll bet they’d love it though!

  10. I don’t have a dog but I am sure my cat would love these as she will pretty much eat food off the floor.
