MSG-Monosodium Glutamate In Food
Harmful preservatives lurking in your processed and fast food.
Please, migraine, go away! As long as I can recall, I have had issues with headaches. In my 30s, some of those headaches turned to migraines, and I have to admit, it truly scares me sometimes. It took a while for me to realize some of my triggers to migraines, one of them being MSG-Monosodium Glutamate (which is found in a LOT of food products).
Then after figuring out MSG-Monosodium Glutamate is a trigger for my migraines, I realized Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners are culprits, too. Oh, no, this meant the end to my Diet Coke!
I’m also leaning toward preservatives being a trigger for migraines as well. It’s been over a year now, actually probably like two, that I’ve been trying (not always successfully, I admit) to eliminate MSG, Aspartame, and artificial preservatives. And still realizing that there are lots of forms of MSG, and here’s a LARGE list! I’m actually trying my best to eat and live as organically as possible.
But I’m human, and I do have my cravings. We’ll talk about chocolate cravings some other time. So, this post is just a post in progress mostly to keep a log and list of fast food, dine-in restaurants, prepared foods, etc. for myself as a quick reference on who/what to avoid and a safe list. As I learn and research, I will keep adding to this list. Please, by all means, feel free to add comments with no-nos and safe eateries free of MSG and all that bad stuff.
I will work on categorizing restaurants, foods to avoid, and safe food choices, and will link to their menus and nutritional data. Likely this will happen as I try to eat something! lol
- Little Caesars Pizza: Well, that is disappointing. They do not talk about MSG or preservatives at all in their nutritional data sheet. I just emailed them (7/4/2014) to inquire. But as I’m Googling around, it is not looking promising that any chain pizza place is free of MSG and other harmful ingredients.
Mexican Restaurant Establishments
- Chipotle: By far this is my personal favorite fast food restaurant, actually probably even more than sit-down dining! So, let me see what is good and bad and if I need to avoid it in the future. All Chipotle’s meat and dairy is hormone- and antibiotic-free! Yeah! No hidden MSG or artificial colors. Another bonus. They do, however, have GMO oils and corn shells. Boo, hiss. So my chicken burrito fajita? Not terrible, but that flour shell does have GMO.
