Dog-friendly vacations are the best when you are visiting a pet-friendly city like St. Augustine, Florida. During our dog-friendly vacation to Florida, the family stayed two nights in St Augustine, Florida. The Nation’s Oldest City has definitely been on my radar for many years.

St. Augustine was founded in 1565 and offers not only great beaches, outdoor activities, dining, shopping, and historic attractions, but St. Augustine is very pet-friendly! Dexter the Dog and I love to travel and visit dog-friendly cities.
Pet-friendly St. Augustine knows how to welcome their canine friends. St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra, and The Beaches have approximately 50 pet-friendly accommodations ranging in price points and variety – from hotels, to bed and breakfast, inns, and beach resorts. Leashed dogs are welcome in several area attractions including Colonial Quarter Museum, Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, Spanish Military Hospital Museum, Schooner Freedom, St. Augustine Scenic Cruise, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, Red Train Tour, Ghost Tour, and various dog-friendly restaurants. You can read more on Dexter’s and my experience at Ripley’s and the Red Train here.
While visiting, Dexter and I weren’t only allowed in a lot of stores, restaurants, and attractions, we were welcomed with open arms, water bowls, and dog treats.
We enjoyed strolling through St. Augustine’s historic district, where he was welcome in most stores. I’m not sure if all stores are dog-friendly, but each one I asked, said yes. 🙂 There were a lot of dog-friendly outdoor restaurants; it was hard to choose. We decided to eat at Taberna del Caballo. The service, setting, and food were great! A little taste of Spain in each bite. Dexter enjoyed a nice, icy water and, of course, I provided him with some extra treats and fresh veggies from my plate.
St. Augustine beaches are even dog-friendly! St. Augustine and the surrounding area has some of the best beaches in Florida. That was a welcomed treat, as a lot of the beaches on the west side of Florida are not dog-friendly unless they are a specific dog beach. We visited Ponte Vedra Beach, where Dexter enjoyed mucking around the beach, sniffing the waves, and trying to eat the sea shells on the shore.
If you are looking for dog-friendly beaches, historic attractions, outdoor activities, dining, and shopping, you won’t want to miss St. Augustine on Florida’s Historic Coast. While many vacation spots boast of pet-friendly hotels or dog-friendly beaches, few destinations are as canine-centric as Florida’s Historic Coast.
Before you go, make sure you check out St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors & Convention Bureau for guides, maps, things to do, and much more.

Wow this place really nice i an sure me and my buddy buzo will love this place. You know there are very less places for outing where you are allowed with pets.
St. Augustine was so much fun. They offered a ton of dog-friendly adventures and attractions. We certainly want to go back.
I think it is amazing that more places are becoming dog-friendly these days and allow you to travel and explore easier with them. Seems like you really got to see a lot of St Augustine with your pooch by your side.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m so thankful cities and business are becoming more dog-friendly. We had a total blast.
I need to get to St. Augustine someday. I know there is lots to see and do there. I’d want to see all the museums.
So much to do! I would recommend an entire week if you can swing it.
I love this! It’s so cool to be able to take your pets on vacation with you and know where the pet friendly places are. Thanks for sharing!
You bet. Glad to share our fun dog-friendly vacations and road trips.
Wow! This is amazing place to spend time with my doggo. Will surely visit this place soon.
Fantastic. It’s such a fun city!
This sounds like a really nice place to visit. I just hope everyone had their dogs on leads and under control. My husky gets a bit excited when she sees other dogs running about the place (and I get trailed after them) 🙂
As with most places, dogs should be on leash and well-behaved. That was the case here. 🙂
St Augustine sounds like a great pet friendly place to visit. It’s great that you can visit museums together with your dog and that everywhere you go your little furry friend will be welcomes with water bowls and treats.
St. Augustine really welcomed Dexter. It’s so refreshing to travel in a city that is accommodating to pets and their families.
