The best dog training treats

Raising Your Pets Naturally

As a positive dog trainer, I’m often recommending rewarding a puppy or dog with dog treats for good behaviors. I also like dog parents to focus on preventing behavioral issues such as thunder-phobia and fearfulness toward strangers. Successful puppy training involves a lot of positive reinforcement, rewards, and encouragement.

You know the saying, an ounce of prevention…and I fully believe in that philosophy when it comes to dog training. But just because I suggest treat training, doesn’t mean that I’m recommending junk-filled training treats, nor do I think your puppy training treats should be a bunch of extra calories. I feel that the best puppy training treats should be able to be incorporated into your puppy’s daily food calories. Let me explain.

Instead of just feeding your puppy food in his bowl, use his food as training treats. If you are feeding your puppy a healthy raw puppy food, you won’t be able to just grab that raw meat and toss it into your pocket for puppy training lessons. Instead, cut back on his raw puppy food just a bit and use cooked, dehydrated, or freeze-dried meat. You can count that meat toward his nutritional needs. If he gets veggies and fruit, you can do the same thing with veggies and fruits.

Pop those meat and veggie treats into your pocket or dog-training pouch for training time. Now, you can easily reward your puppy with healthy, natural puppy treats that aren’t a bunch of empty calories.

Now, if you are kibble feeding your puppy, you can still eliminate a portion of his processed food and use meats and veggies. Dogs are carnivores, so adding meat to his diet is usually just dandy.

If you prefer to purchase healthy puppy treats for training, it’s important to flip over that bag of treats and read each and every ingredient. NOT just the front of the package, the actual ingredient panel. There are 100% single-ingredient treats out there. Again, if you are choosing wisely, those treats for your puppy can be healthy, rewarding, and count toward meeting his nutritional needs.

There is no reason your need to feed your puppy treats that contain a bunch of cruddy ingredients such as sugar, corn syrup, flour, wheat, and goodness, no BHT or potassium sorbate.
