Dog-Friendly Vacations in South Carolina
Dog-Friendly Beaches | Folly Beach
During our dog-friendly vacation to Folly Beach, South Carolina we had to see Folly Beach. Folly Beach is also referred to as “on the edge of America,” which I think is super cute. Folly Beach is dog-friendly with some rules.
A little history on Folly Beach
Folly Beach was once full of trees and dense undergrowth, which was called “Folly” in Old English. This reference dates back to 1696. Folly Beach has gone through a lot over the years, including wars and hurricanes. Folly Beach is now home to 2400 residents and tourists who come for Folly’s laid-back atmosphere and great beach.
Dogs are allowed on the beach May 1 to September 30 before 10 and/or after 6 pm. During the off-season, October 1 through April 30, dogs are welcome anytime on Folly Beach. Dogs must stay on a leash, but swimming and playing is allowed. As always, cleaning up after your dog is a must—and the law. Folly Beach provides pet waste bags at the beach access points, but please remember not to count on this as your only source for pick-up bags. You are responsible for ensuring your dog does not leave a mess behind.
Dexter and I had a great time walking on the warm beach sand. Dexter enjoyed getting his toes wet in the Atlantic Ocean. I will admit I’m a bit leery of sharks and alligators, so getting our toes wet is all we did. It is always the highlight of my day to walk the beach with Dexter. We both really enjoy breathing the ocean air, listening to the birds and hearing the waves crash. Folly Beach was definitely a little piece of heaven for us.

I haven’t been to South Carolina in a while. But, when I do go, I’m going to be sure to visit Folly Beach with my pups!
Wonderful! Folly Beach is such a great area. A must visit.
I have been to the 17 miles beaches in California last winter and saw so many dog enjoying their walk there. The dogs in the states are treated well. Glad to learn about Folly beach too.
We hope to go WEST in 2020. So many fun beaches and things to see and do.
I love dog friendly beaches. Our “kids” love to play and romp around having fun.
Fantastic! Fur kids are the best.
I live in the desert and my dog had never been to a beach! I’d love to see how he reacts.
Wow. We’ve never been to the desert. 🙂 Go for it!
We love taking trips to the beach here in Wa State and many parks are dog friendly on the beach
Washington is on my to visit list. 🙂
My daughter has a deaf dog. She takes him everywhere she goes. I love being able to give her suggestions as to places that are pet friendly all over the country.
How wonderful! I love that she takes him to so many places. I have a post on deaf dogs- https://raisingyourpetsnaturally.com/training-and-living-with-a-deaf-dog/ 🙂
Great read, I hope to get to the coast sometime soon. I’ll be pinning this for later!
Thanks for pinning. Oh, the coast is always so much fun. Folly Beach was a blast.
Dexter is such a cutie and huggable. Look at that hair.
LOL Thanks, Garf. 🙂
I love taking my dog to the beach. It’s so fun to see them run around and play in the sand and water. My dog just really enjoys the wind blowing on his ears.
Hi, Cindy. How cute. Dexter loves sniffing the blowing wind. So many things in the air.
You dog is gorgeous and I love Folly Beach and went there all the time growing up. My mom lives outside of Charleston, SC in Summerville and I cannot wait to get back there as it is so gorgeous!
Thank you. The area is amazing. We actually considered moving to Summerville. It’s a great town.
This is super helpful! We just recently got a puppy and we are hoping to take him on vacation with us next summer and would love to go to the beach. I’ll have to check this place out, thanks for sharing!
Congratulations! Puppies are so much fun and starting them with adventures is a great way to bond. Enjoy.
