Dog-Friendly Things to do in Norwalk, Connecticut

Our first dog-friendly activity was visiting Veteran’s Memorial Park and Marina. This dog-friendly park sits on 35 acres, and includes a children’s playground, basketball courts, soccer field, and a great walking path overlooking scenic Norwalk Harbor.

Dexter really enjoyed strolling along the Norwalk Harbor, taking in all the scents. My family and I had a great time checking out all the fun metal sculptures throughout the park. There’s something interesting about local artwork and sculptures. We always gravitate towards a little quirky art.

Dog-Friendly Beaches in Fairfield, Connecticut

Dexter was feeling quite spunky, so I thought it would be the perfect time to engage him in one of his favorite activities…beach fun! We headed to Jennings Beach in Fairfield, CT, just outside of Norwalk. From October 1 – March 31, Jennings Beach is dog-friendly. Our Connecticut fall road trip was the perfect time to enjoy this dog-friendly beach.

And what a fantastic beach! With 27 acres and an amazing view of the Long Island Sound, this pet-friendly beach had Dexter running and frolicking in the sand. This Norwalk, CT beach had a little bit of everything. There were volleyball poles, sailboat racks, bonfire pits, and a great pier.

Dexter really enjoyed walking the beach and sniffing the horseshoe crabs that washed up on shore. There were plenty of families enjoying a day on the beach, including dogs. Dexter mingled with a few nice pups as he walked down the shoreline. It was a perfect way to spend the day.

Our day wasn’t over yet. Next up was a visit to Cranbury Park. Cranbury Park offers 227 acres of wooded trails, orchards, disc golf course, and a very dog-friendly environment. The center attraction of the park is the historic Gallaher Mansion, a classic example of the Tudor Revival style of architecture. The Gallaher Mansion was built during the Great Depression, showcasing the modern conveniences and creativity of American culture.

It’s important to remember to be a good canine ambassador whenever you are traveling with your dog. This is especially important when you are visiting such a historic spot. The dog-friendly policy is a privilege won by Friends of Cranbury Park in exchange for their promise, on behalf of all dog owners who use the park, to act as park stewards. Please visit their website and read their dog policies prior to visiting. This extraordinary dog-friendly park was a great activity to end our adventure. We were ready to head to our hotel and unwind.

Pet-Friendly Hotels in Norwalk, Connecticut

We were staying at the dog-friendly EVEN Hotel in Norwalk, Connecticut. I knew we were going to be in for a treat when I was greeted by the hotel’s Well-come sign that said, “If you’re feeling Well you’re looking good. Please come on in.” Right next to the hotel entrance was a great dog-potty area and a large outside sitting lounge. This was going to be a real treat!

EVEN Hotels are not your ordinary pet-friendly hotel chain. Their slogan, “Stay well, even on the road” is highlighted through all of their unique amenities, relaxing spaces, and healthier food options in their Cork & Kale™ Market and Bar. I love the way the hotel embraces wellness and even focuses on motivation with their inspiring quotes throughout the hotel and even in the hotel rooms themselves.

EVEN Hotel Norwalk, Connecticut is a four-story property centrally located in Norwalk, CT. This location is located near city attractions, state parks, and is even a short ride to New York City. As one of the first EVEN Hotels in the world, EVEN Hotel Norwalk is designed to help guests maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling.

While I was checking-in to my pet-friendly room, I was struck by how friendly the hotel staff was to me and Dexter. I always appreciate when a dog-friendly accommodation not only allows Dexter, but treats him with respect and kindness.

We stayed in their Wellness two double-bed room. This room was like no other hotel room I’ve stayed in. The room offered not only two cozy beds decked out in all natural eucalyptus linens, but an in-room training zone, fitness kit, and LED mood lighting. The large 40-inch HDTV was tuned into the hotel’s in-room exercise program, which was completed with a how-to colored guide.

Our pet-friendly hotel room was very welcoming and relaxing. I loved the phrase, “Dream Big” over my bed. The floor was made with an eco-friendly cork tile, the bathroom door was a dusted blue glass that lead into a very roomy bathroom with shower amenities.

EVEN Hotel Norwalk’s hotel amenities are quite impressive. They offer a business center, recreation rooms, cocktail lounge, health-and-fitness center, athletic studio with group classes, complimentary infused water, in-house Cork & Kale™ Market and Bar, and an outside lounge area. The hotel was an oasis, and we spent the next day enjoying all that the hotel has to offer. Stay tuned for that post.

  1. Wow! What an amazing place! I would definitely love to spend a vacation there. There are so many great things to do!

  2. The Norwalk Harbor looks so pretty, reminds me of my home town which has a similar near the sea promenade. The hotel you stayed at looks awesome and the designers thought of every single little details. I like their workout corner.

  3. Oh my goodness, the Gallaher Mansion is GORGEOUS!! I will need to look that up. I actually never realized how many places are dog friendly until I started reading your articles. This is very awesome.

  4. I love pet-friendly places. So many people have furry companions. Although I understand why hotels, B&B’s and eating houses might ban animals, I also see how they could make a profit from allowing them. My partner’s cafe recently started to allow dogs other than services dogs in the cafe and it’s really taken off! They even have a wee doggie mat for them to wipe their paws!

  5. I live in CT (about an hour away from Norwalk) and have clients in Norwalk. It is a beautiful city. Never thought of it as a dog friendly town but I don’t own a dog (yet).

  6. We have a cat. I wish she liked to travel, lol, but of course she doesn’t. It limits us because we either have to have someone come check on her (which isn’t the same as being with her in the house) or board her (which we haven’t because they keep her in a cage the whole time we are gone). It limits travel options for sure. Dogs on the other hand, can’t get in the car fast enough! 🙂

  7. How fun! I’ve been to Norwalk once, for a medical visit. I didn’t go to the beach, though (which I regret!) It’s a really interesting city. Thanks for sharing about that interesting hotel!
