Does your dog have a dog snood? What? You have no idea what I’m talking about? A dog snood is a wonderful accessory that gently holds a dog’s ears back and out of his face. This is NOT to be confused with a tight dog bun, or clamping a dog’s ears back with a chip clip, which can be painful. This is so a dog can eat his food, chew a bone, or even play without eating his ears in the process. They are amazing! I’ve actually considered having Dexter wear his while we take a walk, because he often steps on his ears while he is sniffing the ground. Silly boy.
What is a Dog Snood?
A dog snood is basically a soft tube, made from cotton fabric, knitted or crocheted. A good fit is tight enough not to slip, but loose and soft enough not to cause any choking or discomfort. It is usually pretty easy to get your dog accustomed to wearing a properly fitting dog snood when you feed him after the snood is on. Snood=food.
So, instead of cleaning crusty ears, think about purchasing a dog snood. Your dog will thank you.

I’d considered having my Cavalier wear her snood on walks too. If she didn’t hate it soooooo much, I’d have done it. I was thinking of knitting a Oregon Duck snood (when her dad oohed and fussed over her she wouldn’t push it off as soon, and he liked the Ducks) when my girl passed unexpectedly.
If you’d like to see a photo of my girl in her world’s most expensive snood, it’s posted under the Cavalier group in Ravelry.
Dexter looks especially dashing in his snood. The knit ones are the most comfy, as the knit gently holds the ears in rather than just two elastic bands.
I am so sorry for your loss Sharon. Dexter was not a fan at first, but he quickly realized snood=food. We play ball in it and in the winter I have a hat (similar to a snood) because his ears are often snowy and he does step on them!
