Why Make Your Dog’s Treats?
Pet treat recalls. Avoiding preservatives such as Ethoxyquin, BHA, and BHT. Avoiding sugar, high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, and maltodextrose. Bonding. Knowing what exactly is in your dog’s treat and where each ingredient was sourced. Cost effectiveness. Customization. These are just a few of the reasons deciding to make your dog’s treats is beneficial to you and your dog. The bottom line is that by making your dog’s treats, you have the power to ensure only the finest ingredients and the best handling practices are used. Not only that, but it also feels so good to take the time out of your busy day and do something extra special for your dog. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?
Today, I will share a healthy dog treat recipe from my dog treat cookbook, Dexter’s Delights. But first, let’s talk about the flour used in this recipe. I intentionally stay away from wheat products, including wheat flour. Coconut Flour: Coconut is a fruit powerhouse. Coconut can combat yeast, inflammation, and skin infections, and it even helps with digestion. It is high in fiber, protein, and healthy fats.
