I keep trying to tell Mom that I really don’t need to have a dog bath. Really, I smell just fine the way I am. She seems to disagree. Mom believes in a healthy lifestyle for dogs, which I guess that’s what I am. On her quest to find me the healthiest, non-toxic dog products, dog shampoo is on her radar.While doing research on finding me a safe, non-toxic dog shampoo, she found this website Skin Deep where you can put in cosmetic type ingredients and find out what possible harmful side effects they have. This is where Mom starts her search.

Dr.Harvey’s was kind enough to send Mom a sample of Dr. Harvey’s Organic Herbal Shampoo to try. I know it was kind on their part, but they aren’t helping me out at all! Ok, I guess to keep me chemical-free they are. I have to admit, it did have a pretty calming scent. That must be the lavender oil.

After Mom fully wetted me down, she poured some of the Dr. Harvey’s Organic Herbal Shampoo into her hand and started to massage my body. The organic dog shampoo had light lather. This is something that some people may need to get used to. most shampoo manufacturers use Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate to create their foaming action. However, these are not the safest ingredients. Dr. Harvey’s Organic Herbal Shampoo does not use these ingredients, which is a definite plus!

The fresh scent of lavender continued to fill my bathing area. It was quite an enjoyable smell for both Mom and me. After Mom scrubbed me all over, she rinsed me with warm water. During the rinse process, my coat had a bit of a sticky texture. For those not accustomed to using non-toxic dog shampoos, or non-toxic human shampoos, this texture might be something to get used to. But no need to fear, the bath water rinsed clean and all the shampoo rinsed out well.

Once I dried, I had my usual silky texture. Mom towel dried me (click for review) and then put my drying coat on. Once I completely dried, she brushed me. I came out very white, had a clean shine, and looked fresh. I have to admit after my bath and brushing is over, I am one handsome dude. Don’t you agree? Mom said she was very happy with the way Dr. Harvey’s Organic Herbal Shampoo made my coat feel and look. But most importantly to her, the use of a chemical-free dog shampoo was number one in her book.

So what’s not inside Dr. Harvey’s Organic Herbal Shampoo? No detergent, chemicals, synthetics, harsh soaps, sulfates, parabens, fragrance, artificial colors or animal by-products (eeeww). I guess I am pretty handsome now.

Pros: Great ingredients, worked well, didn’t need a lot, moisturizing, gentle, made in the USA, use of organic ingredients, economically priced

Cons: You might need to get used to the low lather and texture when washing out
