Happy 9th Birthday Dexter The Dog!

Where has the time gone? I’m just in shock when I think that Dexter is now nine! My fun-loving, silly puppy is officially a senior dog. Oh, but there’s something about Dexter that you need to know. He’s always my silly monkey. His birthday may reflect a senior dog, but his heart and mind are that of a young dog.

Dexter’s spunk and enthusiasm have been known to keep me on my toes. Dexter is notorious for finding random things to eat. Yup, if there’s an acorn on the ground, I’m pulling it out of his mouth. A dental pick, yup, he’s eaten that. Peach pit, check. Thumbtack, he’s tried. Grass, his favorite. He has a good leave it, if only I’m fast enough to say it.

Catawampus? You’d better believe it. Just last week he pulled a muscle during a walk. Jumping off a 4′ bed to sniff a cat, yup. A few laser treatments later, he was back to normal. I can’t count the times he just leaps from one sofa spot to another, and I have to catch him in mid-air.

Sometimes I think this boy is going to be the death of me. But, when all is said and done, he is just my heart. He’s always is up for a dog-friendly adventure or vacation. If I ask something of him, he obliges with a smile on his face. He’s so patient with all my dog photographs. He never balks when I give him a dog bath, even though he HATES them with a passion. He is the best demo dog and can make everyone laugh with his silly antics.

But, the best part of Dexter is his love for his family. He’s my world, but his humans are his world, too. This year, I didn’t make a dog birthday cake, but we will be taking a dog-friendly vacation to Indiana next week to celebrate his birthday.

My one wish to all of you reading this is to LIVE each day to the fullest. We never know how many days we have with our pets, family, or friends. Personally, I don’t want to say, “I wish we would have…..” I want to say, “we LIVED each day.”
