Dexter the Dog is a well-traveled, highly adventurous dog. One of our favorite things to do together is to hit the open road and find new and exciting dog-friendly opportunities. However, Dexter is also a senior dog with special needs, which can sometimes limit his mobility.

His mobility may be limited, but his mind and heart still wants to participate in the family fun. When Dexter is with me, I always have his dog stroller in my car for the times Dexter needs an extra lift or a rest. However, a pet stroller isn’t always an option on some of our dog-friendly trips or adventures. Take the beach or a rocky hiking trail, for example. It’s just not possible to use Dexter’s dog stroller in these situations. I have been on the hunt for a dog sling that I can wear and place Dexter inside, but this has not been an easy task.

Dexter is not your typical small Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. No, he’s a long, tall, pushing 30 pound Cavalier! Nope, he’s not fat, he’s just our moose. 😉 Most dog front-carrier bags are made for a small dog or compact dog. Did I mention how long Dexter is? I found 4LazyLegs Pets Carrier and asked them their thoughts on their soft pet carrier sling and if they felt it would be a fit for Dexter.

The great folks at 4LazyLegs offered to allow Dexter to give it a try. It holds 33 pounds, but they weren’t sure it would really fit his long and tall body as front dog slings are best for more compact dogs.

When the 4LazyLegs dog sling arrived, I was impressed by the quality of the pet sling. It’s made from 100% cotton canvas and feels and looks very durable and strong. The shoulder strap is very soft and padded to allow for more comfort while carrying your small pet. The shoulder strap is also adjustable to ensure the dog sling sits at the correct potion for carrying. Inside, the sling also has adjustable drawstrings so that you can cinch up your pet inside. There is also a clip to attach to your pet’s collar or harness.

I was super excited to give 4LazyLegs a try. Unfortunately, as we had suspected, Dexter is just too long and tall to safely fit in the pet carrier. The dog sling is just a bit too short for him to be carried. However, they did mention they may be making a larger dog sling! I still think this is an amazing sling for pets smaller than Dexter. Dog slings are a great option for puppies too young to walk in public, dogs nervous in crowds, or special-needs dogs.
