Dog-Friendly Vacations: Dog-Friendly Williamsburg, Virginia
Williamsburg, VA Dexter The Dog and I headed to Williamsburg, Virginia for our first annual Cavalier King Charles Spaniel event, Cavapalooza! We were so excited to be able to attend this dog event, and organizers expected close to 100 Cavaliers! I would also present a dog training workshop on how to have a calm dog feeding routine.
Our dog event was held at the Holiday Inn Patriot-Williamsburg. This is also where Dexter The Dog and I would call home for a few days. The large conference room was the ideal spot to host our dog event. The carpet made the hotel conference room feel cozy and welcoming.
The Holiday Inn Patriot-Williamsburg is a premier location on Richmond Road off I-64. The hotel is centrally located, so it’s just a hop, skip & jump to visit nearby Colonial Williamsburg, a major destination for vacations. Busch Gardens is only five miles away. If you are able to travel a bit further, Historic Jamestown, James River plantations, and Yorktown can make a great day trip. If shopping is more your style, the Premium Outlets are only a half-mile away.
The Holiday Inn Patriot-Williamsburg’s guest rooms were very nice and spacious. Our dog-friendly hotel room included free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with premium channels, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. We were pleasantly surprised by the comfortable bed with triple-sheeted bedding. And Dexter appreciated the cozy chairs to lounge around on. The dog-friendly hotel also offered other amenities that we did not take advantage of such as Indoor & outdoor pools, fitness center, business center, kid’s bounce house, dry cleaning, concierge services, and dining room.
Although we did not spend much time venturing out in Williamsburg, we did take one morning stroll down Duke of Gloucester Street. This famous landmark has been walked by Presidents throughout the years starting with George and Martha Washington! Now Dexter The Dog and I are not history buffs by any means, but this was pretty cool.
Dexter The Dog and I had a wonderful time in Williamsburg, Virginia. It was a short weekend full of doggie adventures. We would definitely like to come back to really check out the dog-friendly town of Williamsburg.

It’s so great that the event was held in a hotel and not somewhere outside. That proves how pet friendly some hotel chains are becoming. Your room sounds like it was perfect and you had a good night sleep on the comfy bed.
Thanks, Joanna. Yes, it was so nice to be accommodated throughout the hotel. We had such a great time.
Dogs event? Never knew there was such a thing apart from dog shows which are meant for them to do tricks. But it sure does sound lot of fun for owner and their dogs. Especially you get to sleep on a very luxurious bed at the end of the day.
Yes. We have a lot of Cavalier meetups and fun adventures.
Always nice to have good accommodation when pets are involved and that they are also catered for.
I totally agree. It was so nice and we certainly appreciated all the support.
So many places are becoming dog-friendly which is good for travelers. It can be hard to leave a dog home.
It’s so nice to see places come around. I love planning our vacations around fun things Dexter can do with us.
I love that there are so many places these days that allow dogs. We always try and take our Sally away with us as I don’t like leaving her and it is amazing the trips we have had with her.
Sally is so lucky! It’s such a great adventure to bring the furry ones.
What a fun event for you and Dexter to attend!!
I love the idea of seeing so much with your pet 🙂
Thanks. I love exploring with Dexter. It’s the best part of my life.
Oh my goodness! I will have to take my dog one year and enjoy the events with my furry friend
You should. Williamsburg is so much fun!

The trip is so amazing! As much as Dexter had so much fun, you really had a lot to learn about taking and caring for a dog.
Very true We’ve learned a lot over the years. Each trip is better and better.
We’re looking into adopting a puppy, I am loving all the pet related posts I am finding. It is really important that pet owners can find fun places that they can vacation that welcomes their pet.

This is awesome. With our pooch and us wanting to go travel, we do tons of research for dog-friendly destinations in the US. If we ever make it Virgina, this is definitely a stop for us.
